About

The DC-based affiliate of CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield has departed from its mission and charitable obligation to serve the healthcare needs of citizens of the National Capital area. The billion-dollar company spent only approximately $1 million on charitable activities in 2004--less than one-tenth of one percent of its assets.

A recent report issued by the DC Appleseed Center shows that CareFirst could and should spend $50 to $100 million each year in carrying out its charitable mission in the National Capital area.  The CareFirst Watch Coalition believes that it is time for the company to immediately begin that undertaking.
